Flourishing joy

This rum surprised me: it's not particularly complex, at first it seems weak, but its value is revealed during the tasting. The color is okay, clean and mahogany, although a bit weak for my taste. However, it immediately swept me off my feet with its scent - marzipan, lots of marzipan. And I can only say this about marzipan: I could eat a ton of it. And here comes the rub, unfortunately I couldn't taste any of the marzipan. In the first sip, the flavor of the punch tasted cake called mignon jumps in, then the alcohol, and finally the citrus is followed by a little fruitiness. This cake can be clearly "smelled". A little cocoa, sometimes a little wood is also here. I wouldn't say it's sticky at all, but there's a slight cola flavor and a bit of a marshmallow-chewy candy experience (in fact, I feel the latter better, there's a whole pack of Maoam in these sips). It really takes me back to my childhood, when sweets weren't the thing I could eat whenever I wanted, so the smell of every candy or chocolate was important, part of the taste experience. Oh, those freshly picked cherry Maoams! But back to the present. The sweetness is here, but they've hit it right so that it supports the senses and doesn't dull them. This is a balanced rum, by which I mean that what I felt in the smell is also reflected in the flavors. Obviously, it's exciting when we taste a scent-bomb rum and its flavors are thousands of different, but in this case it's really nice that the smells we felt came hand in hand with the same flavors. Still, somehow it's not enough for me. Well, we can say that if I buy a punchy mignon cake, why wait for a Gerbaud (welcome in Hungary!), but still. It's missing a few more flavors. More wood, a little smokiness maybe (smoky cakes? Am I normal?), some spices. Anyway, I can recommend it to anyone whom it's not a problem not getting a ton of flavor, but only a few, but those flavors are definitely there. This rum can't be accused of being monotonous in the slightest, but maybe it doesn't want to be more than it is. Honest and simple. I think I'll buy a bottle for those time when I don't want a flavor orgy, just a simple but tasty rum.
